Congratulations! You found all the nice recepies here at sobercocktails.com and now you will get the complete list of tools to wish for your next birthday!
10. Boston shaker
To become the bartender you were supposed to be the most important tool of all would be the shaker. If you go for a boston shaker or cobbler is all about taste. Make sure to settle for one that aren’t painted as they often loose the color when you wash them.
Until your shaker arrive you can always use the home-version, the jar with a lid. Just make sure the jar is big enough that it will fit both the liquid and the ice.
9. Jigger
The one thing that will differ a good bartender from the rest is concistanly, the ability to recreate the same mocktail over and over again with the same beautiful taste every time. We prefer jiggers with different grades like the OXO, that uses both tablespoons and oz.
The home-version would obviously be a measuring cup.
8. Barspoon
The ultimate multitool in every bar is the bar spoon or mixingspoon. You will use it to stir mocktails, crush ice, scrape passionfruit, stir syrups and so the list goes on and on. The long handle makes the bar spoon a nice tool when boiling syrups. We prefer our bar spoons somewhere 15 inches.
If you don’t feel like having a dedicated spoon at home you could always use an ordinary spoon for all the tasting and for stirring mocktails we would use something with a round handle like an eating stick.
7. Strainer
Just because we work without spirit it doesn’t mean that we want small pieces of fruit in our mocktails! This is where the strainer takes the stage. When you’re done shaking your mocktail all you need to do is strain out pieces of mint or small ice chards or whatever you have in you’re shaker that you don’t want on top of you mocktail.
If you cant wait (which you shouldn’t) with the mocktailmaking till you’ve gotten all your tools you can always use a fork or a knife to hold the stuff back when pouring your mocktail.
Say you you would like to make something minty but don’t have the time to make the mintsyrup in this fantastic mojito-mocktail (https://sobercocktails.com/recipe/mojito/)
Then you would just put some fresh mint in the shaker together with the rest and just shake it all. If you only use the strainer it will take away the biggest parts of chrushed mint but the smaller pieces would pass thru and you will end up with tiny green dots on your teeth. Thats why we use the fine strainer. Just like the name suggests, it strains away the finer stuff.
The I-dont-have-time-to-wait-version would be any kind of teastrainer that you have at home.
As the old saying once stated: When life gives you lemons, make lemonade… Since citrus isn’t the cheapest of ingredients, espessialy during of-season its important to squeeze out every drop of the fruit. A nice mexican elbow will make you look like the real deal and it will help you not to waste any precious citrus!
4. Mixing glass
If you really wanna stirr mocktails like the pros, you will need a mixing glass. The reason why we want one (part from looking beautiful in our bar) is the beak which makes the pouring easyier. No mess = more fun!
Of course you could use a wineglass, a shaker tin or just about whatever that fits the ice and the liquid.
3. Soda siphon
It just is plain water…with some bubbles… but it is delicious! Soda makes every lemonade so much better! There is a wide range of soda makers so find one that you like.
If the siphon wont arrive until tonight you can always go for canned sparkling water.
2. Cream siphon
If the bar spoon is the bartenders multitool, the cream siphon is every kitchens ultimate multitool. It can be used to create fantastic elements for desserts, nice fluffy soups, the lightest and airiest panncakes ever and so on…
In the bar we use the siphon to make foams and to infuse stuff. So if you’re really wanna impress this weekend, make sure to order one and make sure to sign up for our newsletter where we will share some nice siphon-recopies in the future!
What really makes a mocktail stand out? The look! So too really step up your mocktailgame we would recommend you to get some beautiful glasses. A couple of nic and noora glasses like these will impress all of your guests!
The home-version here is pretty obvious isn’t it?
